Fundamental concepts of plane surveying. The useof mathematics in applying the correction to errors, calculation of angles and bearings, and the adjustment of traverses, along with field survey practive.
Succesful completion or concurrent enrollment in MTH 112, or consent of instructor.

Calculator with trig. function, D.MS, polar to rectangular coordiantes. Engineering computation paper, survey field books (2), pencil, engineer's scale, protractor, foul weather clothing.
LIST THE PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES OR STUDENT LEARNING COMPETENCIES AS DESCRIBED IN THE INSTRUCTIONAL LEARNING SYSTEM FOR THIS COURSE:
THE STUDENT SHOULD BE ABLE TO:
- Apply the basic principles of measurement theory.
- Measure distances using the various methods described and done in class to within the accepted standards for the equipment.
- Set up, operate and demonstrate the use of the engineer's level, transit, compass, tape and other job related instruments and equipment.
- Know the proper techniques to reduce errors in field measurements, both personal and equipment errors.
- Calculate allowable closures and correction factors to be applied to field data.
- Convert from Azimuths to Bearings and back.
- Calculate coordinates of points given a starting point and angular distance inforamtion.
- Calculate direction and distance of a line given coordiantes of the two end points.
- Perform the calculations and do the adjustments to balance a traverse using the Compass Rule.

The student's grade will be based on homework, optional quizzes, field work, mid-term exams, and rhe final exam.
