    The Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management program prepares students for self-employment and careers in small businesses including nonprofit organizations. The program includes instruction and training in evaluating small business ideas and opportunities, developing skills and understanding the resources necessary to start a business.

    Anyone can start a business. However, to create a sustainable business, the entrepreneur must have more than just a good idea. They must have knowledge of how to assess the potential of a market opportunity and the risks involved in a start-up. They must master interpersonal skills for business communications, negotiations, motivating and closing sales. They must have knowledge of business operations, contracts, business insurance, bookkeeping and an understanding of best practices in hiring, training, motivating and rewarding employees. Upon successfully completing this program, students have an AAS degree and the fundamental competencies necessary to start and run a small business.

    This program is directly focused on the practical, hands-on aspects of small businesses.

    Program Outcomes
    At the completion of this program, students should be able to:

    • Construct a feasibility study
    • Prepare a comprehensive business plan
    • Demonstrate working knowledge of a balance sheet, income statement and cash flow statement
    • Describe funding sources and the capital structure of a business
    • Describe operational and organizational structures for business
    • Demonstrate primary management skills
