Steps for Getting Started At Mt. Hood Community College

  1. APPLY FOR ADMISSION. If you have never taken classes at Mt. Hood Community College (MHCC) or have not attended for one year or more, you will need to fill out an admission form. Please visit www.mhcc.edu/enroll. For more information, please call 503-491-7393, email ar@mhcc.edu or visit www.mhcc.edu/onlineorientation.

  2. ARRANGE FINANCIAL AID. Visit www.fafsa.ed.gov and complete your FAFSA as soon as possible! Processing the application takes approximately 12 weeks! Start now. See www.mhcc.edu/financialaid or call the Office of Financial Aid at 503-491-7262.

  3. FOR NEW STUDENTS: VISIT TESTING SERVICES. To be properly placed into classes, new students must take a College Placement Test (CPT). Testing Services is available at the Gresham Campus (Room 2335) and Maywood Park (Community Skills Center).For more testing information and resources for math and grammar review, see www.mhcc.edu/testing and www.mhcc.edu/proficiency.You can also call Testing Services at 503-491-7678. Students with test scores from another college may not need placement testing. For placement evaluation based on test scores, submit your reading and writing scores to Testing Services. You will still be required to take MHCC's math placement exam. After completion of the CPT, proceed to Step 4.

    FOR STUDENTS WITH PREVIOUS COLLEGE CREDITS: VISIT THE ACADEMIC ADVISING AND TRANSFER CENTER
    . Bring your academic transcript(s) to the Academic Advising and Transfer Center (AATC) located in Room 2253. An adviser will help you to determine if there is a need for the College Placement Test and assist you in planning your first term schedule. Proceeding to Step 4 is recommended but not required for transfer students. For more information, visit the AATC online at www.mhcc.edu/advising.

  4. ATTEND AN ADVISING WORKSHOP. Registration workshops will prepare you to register by providing information about class scheduling, registration processes, campus resources and student services.Visit http://www.mhcc.edu/advising/WorkshopRegistration.aspx to view available times and to register.Additional advising is available on a walk-in basis (8am–5pm, Monday through Friday; www.mhcc.edu/advising). For more information, call 503-491-7315 (Option 5) or email questions to advisque@mhcc.edu.

  5. REGISTER FOR CLASSES. Registration is available for currently enrolled, returning and new students via the MyMHCC portal at https://my.mhcc.edu/ics. For an interactive online registration demo, visit www.mhcc.edu/demos. *.

    To register via MyMHCC students will need to know their user name (MHCC ID number) and password (their six digit birth date until they change it after loggin in the first time). Students also need to make arrangements to pay tuition and fees via the MyMHCC portal or in Student Services. You may view the registration calendar at www.mhcc.edu/RegistrationCalendar. The quarterly Schedule of Classes is available at www.mhcc.edu/schedule.

    Please use the following checklist to review required steps prior to registration..

    • New students nad students who have not attended MHCC for one year or more must complete the student admission form (see step 1)
    • All students must take the College Placemment Test (CPT) if taking any class that carries a proficiency level of "proficiency required". The proficiency levels can be found for each class at the end of individual course descriptions. For further information regarding proficiency levels. Visit www.mhcc.edu/proficiency.

    OR

    • Students transferring to MHCC from another college. Please see Transfer students in step 4
    • Students should complete an education plan by meeting with an adviser in the Academic Advising and Transfer Center or a faculty adviser
    • Proceed to register via the MyMHCC portal. Mail in registration is available for Community Education classes only. Registration assistance is available in the Academic Advising and Transfer Center or in the Admissions, Registration and Records office.

  6. ARRANGE TRANSPORTATION. Permits are not required at any of the MHCC campuses. Visit www.mhcc.edu/parking for parking options on and around campus, cycling resource, parking map, crime awareness/campus security, and FAQs. Tri-Met passes are available for purchase at the MHCC Bookstore.

  7. PAY FOR CLASSES. Tuition and fees are due the first day of the term. For more information, see www.mhcc.edu/pmt or call 503-491-7462. FAQs are available at www.mhcc.edu/Registration.aspx?id=1171. If tuition is not paid, students are still liable for the charges, unless classes are dropped by the refund date. Non-attendance is not a basis for a refund or non-payment of tuition.

  8. GET TO KNOW MHCC. Learn about MHCC's academic programs and campus resources such as the Learning Success Center (www.mhcc.edu/lsc) by attending the New Student Orientation Program (prior to Fall term only) or schedule a campus tour at www.mhcc.edu/tours. For more information closer to Fall term, see www.mhcc.edu/orientation. Call 503-491-7277 or 503-491-7228 to speak to an orientation staff member.

  9. BUY YOUR BOOKS. You can find your required textbooks online at www.bookstore.mhcc.cc.or.us or visit the MHCC Bookstore at the Gresham Campus two weeks before classes begin. For more information, please call 503-491-7188.

  10. GET YOUR MHCC ACTIVITY CARD. Stop by the Gresham Campus Library or the College Center to have your student photo made for the MHCC Activity Card. For more information, visit www.mhcc.edu/library, call 503-491-7161 to speak with a library staff member or call 503-491-7277 to speak to a College Center staff member.
