an insulator

Heat and Frost Insulators

Heat and frost insulators apply insulation and protective finishes to lots of mechanical systems in construction. These systems include piping, valves, boilers, heating duct, ventilating duct, air conditioning duct, smoke stacks, flues, industrial air pollution control equipment, vessels, tanks, and more. MHCC partners with Heat and Frost Insulators and Allied Workers Local 36 to offer an apprenticeship in insulating. They represent more than 300 working professionals throughout Oregon and Southwest Washington.

Your Future as a Heat and Frost Insulator

Insulators work on commercial buildings, industrial plants, processing plants, and even ships! This means the environments can vary a lot. The systems being insulated operate at temperatures ranging from 200 degrees below zero to 1600 degrees above zero. This means insulators must know about heat transfer, condensation control, and insulation material characteristics.

Want to learn more about how you can become a heat and frost insulator? We’re happy to help. Please email questions to MHCC Training Coordinator Dawn Loomis or email MHCC Apprenticeship Advisor and Outreach Specialist Howard Mitchell.
