SEED Students Paddle Dragon Boats
Posted: July 9, 2013
The SyncOrSwim Dragon Boat Club of Portland recruited an International Team of 18 students from Mt. Hood Community College’s (MHCC) SEED program (Scholarship for Education and Economic Development).
The students are here on a two-year scholarship to study English and Natural Resources at MHCC. Coming from Nicaragua, Guatemala, El Salvador and Mexico, the students will return to their countries to work in areas of eco-tourism, wildlife management and conservation. While they are here in the states they are busy studying and constantly working on watershed restoration projects throughout the Portland metro area with organizations such as Metro, SOLV.org, City of Gresham, Johnson Creek Watershed Council and many other community partners.
Paddling the dragon boats on the Willamette River gave them an opportunity to celebrate all their hard work. The SyncOrSwim team made the experience flow with fast paddling and fun.
