MHCC Baseball Team Ready for a Winning Season
The Mt. Hood Community College (MHCC) baseball team has picked up some well-deserved kudos from Collegiate Baseball newspaper.
The Jan. 3 edition ranks the Saints fourth in the Northwest section of the Pacific Association Division and 15th in the overall division in a pre-season poll.
The newspaper reports:
“The Saints finished fifth at the NWAAC tournament one season ago and posted a 31-14 overall record.
“Two position player starters are back along with two starting pitchers.
“The coaching staff landed a superb recruiting class of 16 newcomers.
“Key players to watch include 1B Tommy Lane (Pendleton High School), LHP Jake Dahlberg (Heritage High School, Wash.), RHP Zane Bambusch (2-3, 4.05 ERA), RHP Clint Burris (4-1, 2.43 ERA), SS Cole Hamilton (.259, 4 2B, 18 RBI) and 3B Logan Grindy (.222, 4 2B, 16 RBI).
“‘This year’s team is very athletic with good leadership on the mound,’ said Head Coach Bryan Donohue.”
In addition, Dahlberg, Lane, Burris and Bambusch made the list of top junior college players from across the nation.
The Saints baseball season begins March 1 against Edmonds Community College. The first home game is March 8, noon, versus Shoreline Community College.
