• Mt. Hood Community College celebrates 'School Board Recognition Month'

GRESHAM, Ore. – Mt. Hood Community College (MHCC) will join school districts, education service districts and community colleges throughout Oregon to celebrate January as School Board Recognition Month, MHCC President Dr. Lisa Skari announced at the district’s board meeting this week.

“Our board members spend countless hours of unpaid time working to provide the best possible education for our students,” Skari said. “They also serve as the corporate board of directors for one of our community’s largest employers. Celebrating School Board Recognition Month is one way to say thanks for all they do.”

MHCC is proud to have the following members serve on the Board of Education:
    Diane Noriega, Board Chair
Annette Mattson, Zone 4, Board Vice Chair
    LaVerne Lewis, At-Large
    Diane McKeel, Zone 1
    James Zordich, Zone 2
    Andrew Speer, Zone 3
    Kenney Polson, Zone 5

School board members represent their fellow citizens’ views and priorities in the complex enterprise of maintaining and running the community’s public schools and community colleges. They also reinforce the principle of local control over public education, which is a highly valued aspect of education in Oregon.

In appreciation of their tireless dedication to advancing the success of our students, the MHCC Board of Education was recognized during their regular meeting on January 20 by Dr. Skari and Al Sigala, Executive Director of Development and District Communications. Board members were treated to a virtual performance of John Lennon’s “Imagine” by the MHCC Brass Quintet during the meeting.

“Even though we are making a special effort during January to show appreciation for our community college board members, we recognize their contributions reflect a year-round effort on their part. They are dedicated individuals who are committed to improving student achievement and to fighting for the best for all of our students,” Sigala said.
