Objectives of Student Publications and Broadcasts

Student media programs at MHCC provide student participants with high quality leadership and education opportunities while providing the College community with a variety of forums through which to communicate opinions, ideas and information.
These programs will strive for high ethical standards in the best traditions of comparable professional media including the accurate reporting of facts, the fair and reasonable interpretation of information and provision of forums for all members of the MHCC community.
- The Campus Newspaper The ADVOCATE is part of the student publications program administered by the Director of Student Life. The functions of the newspaper as part of the total media program are:
- To be an educational laboratory for practicing and perfecting journalistic skills and techniques;
- To provide a medium for MHCC community members to communicate information, opinions and ideas with particular emphasis on matters of interest and concern to students; and
- To disseminate announcements and publicize College-sponsored events and student activities.
- The Campus Magazine
VENTURE is part of the student publications program administered by the Director of Student Life. The functions of the magazine as part of the total media program are:
- To be an educational laboratory for students practicing and perfecting their publication skills;
- To provide an annual publication highlighting the issues and activities of the term; and
- To serve as a reflection of events, environments and personalities of the campus.
- The Creative Writing Publication
PERCEPTIONS is a part of the student publications program administered by the Director of Student Life. The functions of the creative writing publication are:
- To be a laboratory for students to practice and perfect their mastery of literary and artistic genres; and
- To provide students a medium to creatively express feelings or ideas using visual art forms or the literary arts.
- Student radio station
The student radio station is part of the student media program administered by the Director of Student Life. The functions of the radio station are:
- To provide an electronic laboratory to practice and perfect skills in all phases of radio;
- To serve as a medium for the dissemination of news and entertainment of the College and the community; and
- To serve as an on-air forum for exchange and discussion of ideas and opinions in public affairs.
Any class project that will result in a publication to be distributed outside of the class must have the approval of the appropriate dean prior to its publication. Guidelines as to content will follow accepted MHCC standards of published writing.
