Off-Campus Incident

Mt. Hood Community College (MHCC) staff members who witness or learn of a school related accident or incident should immediately contact the MHCC public safety office. Public safety will contact the manager of public safety and the vice president of student success and enrollment management or designee.
- The vice president of student success and enrollment management and/or president will then be notified. The vice president of student success and enrollment management and the vice president of administrative services will manage institutional concerns associated with significant accidents and incidents.
- Upon notification, the vice president of student success and enrollment management or designee will coordinate all school-related responsibilities which include:
- Locate and ascertain the condition of all MHCC students and employees involved in the incident;
- Arrange to contact person(s) listed on the registration form under emergency contact information, next of kin, parents or significant others, if the situation warrants. Should the incident result in a death or severe injury, the next of kin notification process will be coordinated with responsible police agencies;
- Refer inquiries on legal and insurance matters to the vice president of administrative services and vice president of student success and enrollment management;
- Provide follow-up assistance to students, staff, families and friends as needed;
- Periodically inform the president of concerns and situations associated with the incident;
- Organize the filing of incident reports from witnesses and individuals involved in the incident; and
- Coordinate with the vice president of administrative services, vice president of student success and enrollment management, vice president of college advancement and the college president all public statements to the media regarding the incident, if necessary.
- Upon notification, the vice president of administrative services will coordinate all MHCC legal and insurance responsibilities, which include:
- Contact with insurance agencies, if necessary;
- Informing the College’s legal counsel of the incident, if appropriate;
- Conduct accident investigations, if necessary;
- Handle all litigation with College legal counsel.
