• MHCC Hires New Head Softball Coach

Gresham, Ore. – Last month, Mt. Hood Community College's long-time head softball coach Meadow McWhorter announced she was taking the top position at Portland State University. This month, MHCC found a new head coach who also has deep PSU roots: former top collegiate player Brittany Hendrickson has been named as the new head coach for the Saints.

Hendrickson, who played for the PSU Vikings from 2011-2015, racked up numerous Big Sky and collegiate awards during her playing career, including:

    • Two-Time First-team All Big Sky (2013, 2015)
    • Second team all Big Sky (2014)
    • Five time Big Sky Player of The Week Honoree
    • Team Offensive MVP (2013, 2014, 2015)

In her senior year, in 2015, she was an offensive force to be reckoned with. Playing in all 51 games of the season, Hendrickson led the team in batting average (.393), hits (59), doubles (11), home runs (8), RBI (45), walks (36) and slugging percentage (.627). She was also an outstanding scholar athlete, having been named to the All Big Sky Academic Teams from 2011-2015.

Upon graduation, Hendrickson joined the Concordia University softball program as an assistant coach. During her time with the Irvine, Calif.- based program, her responsibilities included assisting with operations, recruitment, scouting, fiscal planning, monitoring academic success and fundraising, as well as conducting a strength, speed, agility and conditioning program for the players. Hendrickson is also in the process of completing her Master's degree in Coaching and Athletic Administration from Concordia, to go along with her Bachelor's in Health Studies from PSU.

"We were very impressed with Coach Hendrickson and her commitment to excellence," said MHCC's Athletic Director Kim Hyatt. "She is a hard working individual who is extremely competitive."

Hendrickson has large cleats to fill: she inherits a program just coming off its eighth Southern Region crown and fifth NWAC title.

"Brittany recognizes the outstanding program that we have at MHCC," said Hyatt. "She is committed to leading this program with many of the same principles that have been so important to our success; character development, competitiveness, community and academic success."
