The purpose of the computer labs is to provide equipment and facilities in which MHCC students and faculty can develop computer skills and complete classroom assignments required for courses offered at MHCC Only. YOU ARE REQUIRED to log in and out EACH TIME that you use the computer lab.
Individuals requiring accommodations due to a disability or needing accessible formats should contact the Disabilities Services Office at 503-491-6923 . Please call at least 2 weeks in advance to ensure availability.
Student's Responsibility:
Virus protection is provided on all the computers in the lab areas. Know where your flash drive has been. The intentional spreading of computer viruses is a crime. Mt. Hood Community College will pursue the imposition of disciplinary sanctions on students (consistent with local, state and federal law) up to and including expulsion and referral for prosecution for violations.
Lab Monitors Job:
Our goal as computer aides is to help you determine which software you need and which machines are available. We may or may not be able to solve all computer program problems. Please be aware that computer aides are NOT tutors or instructors and are not qualified to answer questions concerning your course requirements or your instructor’s intentions. Not all computer aides are well versed in computer applications. You, the student, assume full risk when you use any advice given by a computer aide.
Printing and Copying Procedures:
Pay-for-print is available in all open student computer areas. A credit card or debit card is needed to purchase printing or copying. Black and white printing costs 5 cents per side. Other options such as color printing, scanning, and file copying are available at other costs. Scanning is free but a Saints Print account login is needed to access the scan menu. No charge will be made against your card. ALLOW PLENTY OF TIME TO PRINT/COPY/SCAN YOUR DOCUMENTS FOR CLASS.
Be Respectful of People and Resources
Computers are for school or class related research and assignments only. Unauthorized use such as browsing adult sites will result in loss of lab privileges. There is no privacy – your lab activity can and will be monitored locally and remotely.
Please be responsible in your use of the equipment at all times. Be gentle with the computers and other equipment in the lab. The internal workings of all computer equipment are off limits. If questions arise regarding hardware, please consult a computer aide or your instructor.
Items which may be available for checkout include flash drives, head phones, ergonomic keyboards, and charging cables. You will be asked for collateral to be held at the desk while you use checked out materials. This will be returned to you when you return the materials. Ask a staff member if you need assistance with any hardware or software.
Most machines are set up with VDI or virtual desktops. A few machines have special software installed that will not run on VDI. Priority for these machines is given to students who are required to use this software for class assignments. If you need to use special software, ask on which machines it is installed. If you are using a machine and someone else needs access to special software installed on that machine, you will be asked to move to another available machine.
Please note the fire exits. In case of fire, leave the lab immediately. Do not attempt to disconnect electrical equipment or help fight the fire.
Any unauthorized use of passwords, software or records, falsification of identity, as well as any violation of the confidentiality or security of passwords, software or file data, will be subject to disciplinary action, including suspension or expulsion.
