Looking for a great way to beat the summer heat? Interested in swim classes or other ways to keep the kids occupied during school break? Check out the Mt. Hood Community College Aquatic Center on the Gresham Campus. There you’ll find a variety of classes,
events and programs for all different ages.
The Aquatic Center includes the Portland area’s only Olympic-sized 50-meter outdoor pool, perfect for lap swimming. Inside, you’ll find a 25-yard, six-lane competitive pool; an instructional pool for kiddos; hydrotherapy pool; and locker rooms with
showers. You can catch the Aquatic Center’s popular Dive-In Movies on a giant screen at the outdoor pool; don’t miss the “Secret Life of Pets” on August 4 and “Finding Dory” August 25. The Aquatic Center also hosts regular swim meets, during which
all pool facilities close to the public.
Sign up for children’s and adult swim lessons at the Aquatic Center this summer too. All instructors and lifeguards are American Red Cross Water Safety certified. The Aquatic Center offers infant/parent and toddler/parent classes, all the way up to
teen swimming classes for ages 13-18. Instructors also teach a variety of water exercise classes for adults throughout the week during different times (mornings, afternoons and evenings). Drop-ins are welcome at all adult classes.
Throughout the summer, the Aquatic Center also hosts a number of day camps, with themes ranging from Silly Science to Super Heroes and field trips varying from the Oregon Zoo to the Columbia River Gorge. You can find an assortment of other classes
and activities there as well, including lifeguard training, aquatics-related college credit classes and private swim lessons.
The Aquatic Center holds open swim for all ages and lap swimming for swimmers 16-plus Monday through Friday. Admission is free to MHCC students, faculty and staff (staff or student ID required). Drop-in daily admission costs are $4 for children (ages
0-17) and seniors (62+) and $5 for adults. The Aquatic Center also offers lap swim/open recreation swim membership plans. Members have unlimited use of the pools and locker rooms during operational hours.
