• MHCC TRIO Student Support Services Program: Eligibility Criteria


  • In order to qualify for the TRIO Student Support Services (TRIO-SSS) program, you must meet at least one (1) of the following eligibility criteria:

    • First Generation College Student: your parent(s) or guardian(s) did not obtain a bachelor's degree.
    • Low-Income Student: your household’s taxable income for the preceding year did not exceed 150 percent of the poverty level amount. Please refer to this webpage here.
    • Disabled Student: if you have a documented disability and are currently working with Accessible Education Services (AES) at MHCC, you may qualify as a disabled student. Please refer this webpage here.

    As a general requirement for all students wishing to join TRIO-SSS: you MUST meet the residency requirements to receive federal student aid.

    In addition to meeting one (1) of the eligibility criteria above, you must also meet at least one (1) of the following additional requirements for Academic Need:

    • You need support to maintain good academic standing 
    • Your GPA was below 2.00 in high school or have had prior college experience 
    • You have had failing grades in core courses 
    • You are unsure of a career and program goal
    • You have Limited English Proficiency 
    • You have a documented disability requiring accommodations
    • You have been out of school for five or more years 
    • College Placement Test indicating Reading, Writing or Math below the 100 level
    • Referred to TRIO-SSS from a MHCC faculty or staff member
    • Referred to our program from another assistance program or a TRIO program at another institution
