• Tuition and Residency


  • The MHCC Board of Education sets tuition/fee rates and reserves the right to make changes without notice. The amount of tuition charged is determined by the student's residency and the number of credits they are registered for. Some courses require an additional course fee. These fees are shown in the schedule of courses in the individual section information for the course. The Safety and Security Access Fee ($3.50 up to maximum $52.50), Student Activity ($4.25 up to maximum $63.75) , Student Technology Fee ($7.00 up to maximum $105.00), College Services Fee ($3.50 up to maximum $52.50), Instructional Access and Support Fee ($3.50 up to maximum $52.50) are all assessed on a per credit bases up to 15 credits.

    Students who meet the eligibility requirements for the MHCC Tuition Pledge will continue paying the per credit hour rate of tuition based on the year the student started classes. For more information see: mhcc.edu/TuitionPledge

    Counseling is required prior to registration for more than 20 credits

    Safety & Security Access Fee: This fee provides support for the safety and security of all College properties. It is assessed per credit hour.

    College Service Fee: This fee provides for processing and service costs for general admission applications, graduation processing, duplicate certificates/degrees, official transcripts, college placement testing and tutoring services. It is assessed per credit hour.

    Student Activity Fee: Student activity fees are disbursed on a comprehensive program basis for student government activities and for intercollegiate sports. The statement of philosophy of this financial support can be found in the Appendix of Board Policy and college Regulations. It is assessed per credit hour.

    Student Technology Fee: This fee provides support for software maintenance cost as well as the continued growing need for technology. Wireless demand also continues to increase as the number of wireless devices per student increases. It is assessed per credit hour.

    Instructional Access & Support Fee: This fee provides for the costs of distance learning infrastructure, personnel, help desk, testing, technology, and faculty training. It is assessed per credit hour.

    Special Fees: Certain classes require tools, uniforms, equipment, insurance, etc., which are not covered by tuition or course fees.

    International Student Fee: This fee provides specific programming and support for current international students.

    Auditing: Students (no credit or grade) pay in accordance with the tuition/fee schedule.

    Residency: Determination of residence for admission and other purposes will be made according to the following definitions: Residence is defined as a person's domicile, his/her true fixed and permanent home and place of habitation. It is the place where one intends to remain, and to which one expects to return when one leaves without intending to establish a new domicile elsewhere. Domicile is not established by mere attendance at the college. A valid driver’s license, permit or ID card from Oregon, California, Idaho, Washington or Nevada is required for all students requesting in-state residency. Oregon residency must be established 90 days prior to the first day of class.

    In-State Student: An American citizen or immigrant who has established residency in Oregon 90 days prior to the beginning of classes.

    Out-of-State Student: An American citizen or immigrant who has not established residency in Oregon 90 days prior to the beginning of classes.

    International Student: A citizen of another country in the United States on a visa other than an immigrant visa.

    Reciprocity: An American citizen or immigrant who has established residency in Washington, California, Idaho or Nevada may pay in-state tuition.

    Senior Discount: Mt. Hood Community College offers senior discount privileges to in-district residents who are 62 years old or older. In-district residents who qualify receive a discount on many noncredit fee-based Continuing Education classes and are offered a 50 percent discount on tuition. This discount does not apply to fees. In addition, residents of Oregon, age 65 or older qualify for free tuition for up to eight credits of transfer level classes taken as an audit grade (does not include fees).
