• How to Get Started

  • Registering for Wilderness Leadership and Experiential Education classes for Fall 2017

There is no application process to register for WLEE. This is an open entry program that begins in the fall term only. Prospective students are admitted on a space available basis after academic criteria has been met. Registration for fall term begins in late May.

Follow this simple 3-step process to register

    1. Submit an MHCC Student Admission Form. New students and those returning after four terms or more will need to submit this form, available online here: MyMHCC.edu

    2. Meet the minimum proficiencies in reading, writing and mathematics which can be satisfied by placement into MTH60, WR115 and RD115 on the MHCC College Placement Test (CPT) or by completing MTH20, WR90 and RD90 (or equivalent transfer courses demonstrated through official transcripts on file at MHCC).

For information about the College Placement Test, call 503-491-7678. There is no charge. The test is administered by computer, and takes about an hour. You'll know your results immediately.

    3. Students should register for:

      GEOG105 Introduction to Physical Geography
      HPE285OL Wilderness Survival
      WL130 Backpacking and Camp Management
WL150 Foundations of Experiential Education and Leadership
WL186 Leave No Trace Trainer Certification

If you try to register, and it shows that section is full, get on the waitlist for the class. We will then manually move waitlisted students into the next section that we open up. The Admissions Department will notify you when you are placed into a course and section by us.

    Continuation requirements for Winter term

Fall term students must have the consent of their WLEE Program faculty adviser and meet the proficiencies of the program classes to be qualified for Winter WLEE courses. At that time, the student's major will be changed to Wilderness Leadership and Experiential Education. Until Winter term, you'll be considered a general student.
