The Mark Kralj Memoriam
October 09, 2024Mark Kralj was a steadfast supporter of Mt. Hood Community College (MHCC) and a cherished friend to many. In 2018, he received the MHCC Patron Saint Award, recognizing his unwavering commitment to the college and its students. Together with his wife, Kathy—both proud MHCC alumni—Mark once said, “I support MHCC because they gave me inspiration and education with passion behind it, and they are still doing that for today’s students. There are very few things more important than that.”
Mark’s unexpected passing has left a deep void in our community. He served as a valued member of the MHCC Foundation Board, the Planned Giving Committee, and actively participated in the Heritage Society and Saints Alumni Association. His generosity and spirit will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Our hearts go out to Kathy and their family during this difficult time.
Debbie Derr, former president of MHCC and current Foundation Board Member, expressed her sorrow, saying, “My heart is breaking. Mark will always be remembered for his generosity and kindness. I loved his smile and sense of humor. He has been such a champion of the college and our students. I am so very sad. I know our love is with Kathy and his family.”
Dan Corcoran reflected on Mark’s impact, sharing, “Over 30 years ago, with Gresham Little League, he taught me, a kid with two black eyes how to actually catch a baseball. That, among all the other ways he was involved for so long, shows both the width and the depth of his commitment to our community and the lives he’s touched.”
In addition to serving on the MHCC Foundation, Mark served on over 20 boards and committees.
Mark Kralj made a lasting impact on MHCC. His dedication is a legacy that will continue to inspire all of us at MHCC. He will be forever remembered for his kindness, generosity, and dedication to our community.
In October, the MHCC Foundation created the Mark Kralj Memorial Scholarship to offer students financial support in his honor.
