Equity Scorecard

MHCC is on a journey to advance diversity, equity, inclusion. As part of our strategic plan, we established key performance indicators to monitor and work toward closing persistent racial outcome gaps. Our work requires us to be data-informed as we consistently design our systems and implement interventions to promote success of all students, especially those who have been historically excluded from educational opportunities. The following data reflects the 2023-2024 school year.

Six-Year Outcomes

The percentage of students who are retained from the fall term to the winter terms within the same academic year.

Bar graph showing data for six-year outcomes. Data is in Table 1.

Cohort Inclusion Criteria

These metrics are based on the Volunteer Framework of Accountability (VFA) measures. The following criteria determine which students are included in the cohort to calculate three metrics above.

New to Institution

Students who are new to the reporting institution in the first fall term of the tracking period, regardless of prior postsecondary education experiences, including those with varying fall enrollment start dates.

Educational Background

Students must have completed high school or its equivalent and attempted credit and/or developmental education classes for the first time in the fall term of the cohort year.

Enrollment Period

  • Students new to the institution in the specified fall or the preceding Summer terms.

  • Students who have completed high school or its equivalent, or demonstrated the ability to benefit.

  • Students enrolled in the fall term of the cohort year.

  • Students who have attempted a credit and/or developmental education course.

  • Students who remain enrolled by the end of the fourth week of the class.

Drop, Fail, Incomplete, Withdraw (DFIW) Rate

The DFIW (Drop, Fail, Incomplete, Withdraw) rate includes all grades in credit classes, excluding Apprenticeship and College Now courses. This metric accounts for every instance a student enrolls in a section, meaning each enrollment is counted individually.

Race Passed Failed (DFIW)
American Indian (142) 54% 46%
Asian (2443) 85% 15%
Black (1741) 66% 34%
Hispanic (6961) 76% 24%
Multiracial (3085) 78% 22%
Pacific Islander (181) 74% 26%
White (20082) 84% 16%
International (689) 81% 19%
Unknown (727) 84% 16%
Total (36051) 81% 19%

MHCC Diversity

The MHCC diversity metric excludes students classified under the International and Unknown categories.

  • International Category: This category is excluded as it applies exclusively to students.
  • Unknown Category: This category is excluded due to a disproportionate percentage (18.5%) of students classified as Unknown, which could skew the representation of other racial categories. Including this category would distort comparisons to other data sets, such as district numbers, making them less meaningful.
