Program Outcomes

After completing this program you'll be able to:

  • Follow safety steps and check welding gear.
  • Know the tools for welding and understand how they work.
  • Use blueprints to make and check what you build.
  • Get welding and cutting equipment ready, and use it right.
  • Learn how to weld steel and aluminum the right way, looking at how pieces fit and where to weld.
  • Look at your welds for any mistakes and figure out how to fix them.
  • Make welds that pass AWS specs.

Courses and Curriculum

In this program, you’ll learn everything you need to know to be a competent SMAW welder. This certificate can be completed in 16 credit hours and includes classwork and practical experience. Students are required to maintain a minimum grade of “C” in all IMTL courses. All core courses must be completed within five years in order for the certificate to be awarded.
