AR 3726: Social Media

This administrative regulation (AR) covers new and existing social media profiles that contain the name and/or trademarked logos, images, language, etc. of Mt. Hood Community College. This AR does not relate to students or employees who post about MHCC on their personal profiles.

All MHCC branded social media accounts started by employees, alumni or students must be created in conjunction with the brand, marketing and communication office (BMC) and must follow the MHCC social media guidelines. BMC must also pre-approve the use of the MHCC logo on social media sites.

Official representation of MHCC on any social media site, including comments on social media posts, will present a uniform, equity centered, and consistent message and identity to our community. Official representation is defined as using the MHCC name in the title of the social media page and/or logo and branding.

Individuals interested in creating social media accounts associated with the college must also provide a link to their site, user name, password, and contact information for the site manager.

It is the responsibility of BMC, upon notification by department managers or program owners, to ensure that social media sites which are no longer maintained are deactivated in a timely manner.

MHCC reserves the right to remove content generated by students or employees from any MHCC-sponsored or affiliated websites and social profiles at its discretion if it violates institutional policies.

Any posting on MHCC social media sites must comply with all applicable privacy laws, including Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act and (HIPAA).

Social media is defined as any form of electronic communication primarily distributed via the internet through which users create online communities to share information, ideas, personal messages, and other content.
