AR 4237: Credit for Prior Learning

Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) is a way to obtain credit for evidence-based assessment of learning that occurs outside of traditional college-level coursework.

CPL may be granted on a case-by-case basis by the relevant faculty member for documented college-level learning experiences. Evidence that a student has met course learning outcomes may include documentation such as certification card or licensure, documentation from an employer, résumé from the student, professional portfolio, or completion of a non-credit training program.

No more than 25 percent of credits applied toward a degree and/or certificate may be earned via CPL.

The vice president for instruction shall ensure CPL procedures are developed and maintained.
