AR 4238: Dual Credit Programs

“Dual Credit” is defined as awarding secondary and postsecondary credit for a course offered in a high school during regular school hours and may include lower division transfer courses and professional technical courses. 

• Student Selection
  The students receiving college credit are generally juniors or seniors. High school placement practices will be used to determine appropriate placement of students in college-level courses. In some instances, the college placement test may be administered as an additional required qualification.
• Credits recorded by the college
  Courses will be shown on student’s Mt. Hood Community College (MHCC) transcript.
• Dual credit course subject matter and materials
  All high school course information will be submitted to MHCC faculty for review and must meet lower division transfer or professional-technical criteria to be accepted for dual credit. An articulation agreement will be written and agreed to between the high school and the college for articulated courses.
• Instructor Qualifications
  High school instructors will be subject to the same qualifications as MHCC faculty members. Alternatively, high school instructors who do not have the required qualifications may receive a presidential waiver while working toward the graduate content area credits to meet qualifications, or through the Sponsored Dual Credit process.
• Collective Bargaining / Faculty Associations
  High school dual credit instructors, who are not otherwise employed by the college, are not a part of any collective bargaining agreement or faculty association of MHCC. In addition, dual credit instructor approval decisions have no direct correlation on the collective bargaining agreements the college has with its employees.
