Mental Health, Social Service, and Addiction Counseling - After Graduation

Mt. Hood Community College (MHCC) prepares you for work in the Mental Health, Social Service, and Addiction Counseling settings. Our students have been hired at Department of Human services, as addictions counselor in treatments centers such as Cascadia or Metro. They have been hired by school districts, hospitals and juvenile justice departments of corrections. We are partnered with 40 different schools, agencies and departments that are clamoring to hire our students due to its incredible reputation. In fact, 85% of our students get hired through their internships before they even graduate!

Substance Use Disorder Counselors

In these roles, you will provide substance use disorder (SUD) services to assigned clients, including assessment, development of treatment plans, and individual therapy, group therapy that are tailored to each client's needs. You will also counsel clients or patients, individually or in group sessions, to assist in overcoming dependencies, adjusting to life, or making changes.

Social and Human Service Assistants

In such roles, you will develop and implement behavioral management and care plans for clients and keep records or prepare reports for the owner or management concerning client visits.

Mental Health Counselors

As a Mental Health Counselor, you will be responsible for assessing patients for risk of suicide attempts and preparing and maintaining all required treatment records and reports.

Mental Health and Substance Abuse Social Workers

In these roles, you will interview clients, review records, conduct assessments, or confer with other professionals to evaluate the mental or physical condition of clients or patients. You will also supervise or direct other workers who provide services to clients or patients.

More Potential Career Paths

Some more potential career paths after completion of the Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in Mental Health, Social Service, and Addiction Counseling are mental health agencies, treatment centers, the Department of Corrections, the Department of Human Services, or elementary, middle, or high schools.
