PTAs work with people who are recovering from injury or illness, to help them regain movement and manage pain. PTAs provide treatments prescribed by a physical therapist (PT). This includes helping patients with movement and exercise; assisting patients by using hands-on techniques; and increasing patients' ability to walk and live independently.Program Outcomes
After completing this program you'll be able to:
- Apply knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology, body systems, and cellular/tissue health throughout the lifespan while providing physical therapy services under the direction and general supervision of a physical therapist.
- Behave in a manner consistent with the professional ethics, values, responsibilities, service, and leadership expectations for the physical therapist assistant.
- Apply principles of evidence-informed practice and clinical reasoning during the provision of physical therapy services.
- Educate in a manner that meets the needs of patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals.
- Adjust personal behavior to optimize inclusive and equitable patient care.
- Collaborate with and under the direction and supervision of a physical therapist in the provision of physical therapy services.
Courses and Curriculum
Course topics in this program include clinical practice, therapy interventions, communication, and more. You will be a member of a collaborative learning community as you move through each course together. The full-time and part-time faculty are supportive and knowledgeable practicing clinicians who will guide you to success. You must complete all courses with a grade of "C" or better. The classes are offered in sequence and must be completed within three years of starting the program.
