American Sign Language - After Graduation

Once you’ve completed the American Sign Language program at Mt. Hood Community College (MHCC), you will have the skills needed to find work as a tour guide, travel guide, interpreter, and more.

MHCC Career Coaches are here to help you explore your career options after graduation. Below are a few common paths graduates can pursue.

Interpreters and Translators

As an Interpreter or Translator, you must follow ethical codes that protect the confidentiality of information. You will translate messages into ASL while maintaining message content, context, and style as much as possible.

Tour Guides

As a Tour Guide, you will take individuals or groups on cruises, sightseeing tours, or through places of interest, such as industrial establishments, public buildings, or art galleries. You will monitor their activities to ensure compliance with establishment or tour regulations and safety practices.

Travel Guides

As a Travel Guide, you are expected to resolve any problems with itineraries, service, or accommodations and attend to the unique needs of tour participants.

Secondary School Teachers, Except Special and Career/Technical Education

In this role, you will adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' needs and interests. You also must maintain accurate and complete student records as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations.
